Dental implant (also called a fixture) is a surgical component- an artificial tooth root- when placed in the jaw, interacts and combines with the bone to provide support for a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis. Dental implants may be a viable option for people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.
- X-rays are taken to make sure implants are a suitable treatment option.
- Placing the implant: This is done in one appointment (also know as immediate load dental implants). The implant usually needs 3-6 months to osseointegrate with the jaw. A temporary tooth is placed while waiting for the permanent crown.
- Fitting the permanent crown: The new tooth should function just like a natural tooth. If you have only one missing tooth, a dental crown on a dental implant is probably the best treatment.
- X-rays are taken to make sure implants are a suitable treatment option.
- Placement of 3 or more dental implants in your bone. A provisional 3 teeth or more bridge can be simultaneously placed on the implants (if technically possible).
- After implant osseointegration (3-6 month), the bridge is definitely fixed on.
