Advantages of Getting Zirconium Dental Implants:
Holistic: If your goal is for absolute metal-free dentistry, Zirconia is the only viable choice. Zirconia implants do not alter the body’s energy meridians. For those patients who follow the principles of acupuncture meridians in holistic/biological medicine, zirconia implants are the best solution, because they are totally bio-inert. No longer is it necessary to implant only Titanium or any other metal in order to have ‘fixed’ teeth.
Esthetics: Use of the Titanium implant may result in the formation of a dark line around the gum line, especially over time, if bone recession occurs, or the patient has ‘thin gums’. Zirconia implants are white in color and overcome a number of limitations of the metal titanium implants.
Hygienic: Ceramic implants and crowns promote healthier gums because they retain less plaque and calculus than Titanium. The non-electric conductivity of zirconia makes it more difficult for bacteria to adhere to the surface of the implants and thus, easier for the patients to clean and maintain healthy gums, avoiding bleeding of the tissues.
Biocompatible: As an inert material, Zirconia is a very biocompatible material and because of that a very firm integration occurs between the bone and the ceramic implant, confirmed by research. The microscopic histological images confirmed a direct contact between the bone and the implant surface without any signs of inflammation or foreign body reactions. Zirconia is resistant to chemical corrosion and it is an electric and thermal insulator. These three properties make zirconia a bio-inert material and thus the surrounding tissues around the implants are totally healthy.
(*) Zirconium has a very Low Allergic Potential. There is an increasing number of people that present with allergies, sensitivities and other skin or immune system reactions that may prevent the implantation of a metal device into the body. This allergy may cause itching, redness, discomfort, and inflammation that may lead to bone loss around a metal implant.
Strength: These implants have been designed to withstand the masticatory (chewing) forces of the mouth.
