A Dental Crown restoration is an artificial replacement that restores missing tooth structure by surrounding part or all of the remaining structure with a material such as cast metal, porcelain, or a combination of materials-metal and porcelain.

Crowns that are properly cared can last for many years, at least 10 years.
It's not common, but if a tooth hurts after a crown procedure the cause may be:

The tooth needs some time to settle down.

The crown is slightly too high and your chewing on it is causing pain.
Most commonly the pain is due to one of the above reasons, Good news is that such tooth most of the times can be treated and the pain goes away immediately.
We will accomplish the treatment for your new crown on two visits:
1. At your first visit: a complete clinical examination of the teeth and supporting structures is accomplished with confirming X-rays. The tooth is then prepared, an impression is made, and sent to the laboratory for construction of the crown. A temporary crown is placed to protect the remaining natural dental structure and minimize any resulting tooth sensitivity.
2. During the second visit, the crown is evaluated for accuracy of marginal fit, color, and occlusion. Upon satisfaction of these parameters, the crown will be cemented in with a special bonding cement.
If root canal therapy is included in the treatment, an additional visit will be required.
